This incredible fruit that Rose and her team hand-picked each year came from 50 year old Cabernet and Shiraz vines grown on the original family estate in McLaren Vale. Planted in 1969 by Rose’s father-in-law Frank Harrison, this vineyard has been carefully maintained to produce some of the best fruit in the region. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines are a rare clone, producing a flavour profile that is quite unique – one of cassis and dark summer berries. Carefully blended with Shiraz from the estate, Rose hand crafted a series of vintage wines that were emblematic of the great Australian red wine. Made to honour the Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine shows the hall mark mulberry, ripe plum and a touch of spice on the palate. It is a powerful wine style, with great depth and length, and fine oak tannins. Rose only made this wine in the vintages that allowed for optimal Cabernet Sauvignon fruit ripening. Each vintage made has been created by hand picking into small buckets, then cooling the fruit overnight in the cellar before crushing and adding yeast to begin cooler, controlled ferments. Fermented dry, the juice is pressed off the skins and transferred to fine French oak hogshead barrels for 22 – 24 months of barrel ageing. The wine is then bottled and placed back in the cellar to bottle age a further 12-14 months prior to release. All of the vintages on offer are from Rose’s cellar – making this a rare museum release – a rare opportunity. They are ageing beautifully, kept cool in a temperature controlled warehousing facility. They make fine gifts, incredible special occasion wines to drink now, or will reward you in the future with further cellaring.
